![]() The hunting ritual is clearly a big deal to the Yautja (and as the movie later explains it is a rite of proving of sorts), but the movie later shows that they are staggeringly incompetent without their insta-win shoulder cannons. They’re on an expedition into an old pyramid, but for some reason the movie reveals later that they brought suitcase guns, presumably on the extreme off-chance that there’s Aliens™️ afoot. Presumably they didn’t see it (how do you not see humongous missing sections of a building that are just vaporized), but furthermore why does the fact that it comes from the direction of the sky not alarm anyone.Īlso the setups just create problems later in the movie. The characters are scientists, or expeditionaries, but there’s giant holes in the building in the same trajectory as the huge ice hole and nobody thinks to ask, “hey wtf is up with that”. In theory, yes, but in the context of the movie, no. It was an odd decision to make Predators hunting ground in frozen wasteland since they are in canon heat lovers, and I recall this being heavily criticized by fans, but from the flashbacks in the movie it was clear when they built this specific hunting ground and used that ancient civilization for willing bodies, it was not an icy area (eons ago). Suffered from expectations at the time being such a beloved franchise(s), but I think everyone looks on it more fondly now after many failed attempts to do better. Much better than some other sequels and entries in Predator and Alien universes, some of which like the last Predator are actively atrocious. Some memorable imagery in the Alien with the net shaped scar, etc. ![]() It gave us the first big screen slug fest between a Yautja and a Xenomorph, and has scenes I remember clearly so it is not a forgetable movie in my estimation. It is an entertaining movie and I like that Bishop's "ancestor" face was in it. First AvP was a perfectly decent movie for what it was.
